Making Filing More Fun

Materials Needed

  • Filing cabinet
  • Drop cloth or old sheets
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Painter’s tape
  • Tremclad Rust Primer
  • Tremclad Rust Spray Paint (colour of your choice)

Step 1

Always important to start with a well-ventilated area. Open windows to help air flow – or even better, take in the great outdoors by setting up outside. Next, lay your cabinet on a drop cloth or old sheet and make sure any nearby items are protected from overspray.

Step 2

Wipe filing cabinet free and clear of all debris (inside and out). You may wish to remove the drawers, if possible, to ensure full paint coverage.

Step 3

Protect any handles or hardware by covering them with painter’s tape before you paint.

Step 4

Prime cabinet and drawers with one coat of Tremclad Rust Primer. When spraying use light, smooth strokes for a nice even coat. As always, be sure to follow manufacturer's recommendations on preparation, application, drying times and clean up. Allow to fully dry.

Step 5

Apply one coat of Tremclad Rust Spray Paint in a colour of your choice to cabinet and drawers. Apply a second coat, if necessary, within one hour or after 24 hours to achieve the perfect finish.

Step 6

Once fully dry, remove painter’s tape from handles and hardware. Replace drawers and file away!
